Open Source Smart Materials Will Change the Entire World
Catarina Mota, tinkerer and co-founder of openmaterials.org, says it’s time we open source smart materials and make them accessible to everyone. Until now, the secrets of our precious possessions have been locked away to corporations and universities exclusively, but we have release them for everyone if we want innovation to happen. Some of the most flabbergasting and miraculous devices she showed at TEDGlobal were acrylic windows that become opaque at the flip of a switch, a paper speaker, and even a light with ink circuitry powered by the touch of a finger. Mota is clearly on the frontier of the open-source future.
