Self-Healing Asphalt of the Future
Tired of potholes and bumpy roads? Civil engineer and expert in micro-mechanics Erik Schlangen developed a new type of asphalt that can actually ‘heal’ itself. He used a clever steel wool infused design that causes the bonding agent to liquefy and refill cracks between rocks as the steel heats up under induction. This new technology is currently being tested in the Netherlands and is en route to the rest of the world’s roads. It can potentially save millions in road and car repairs. Say hello to the future of pavement.
